Sgt. Nathaniel Boyd, Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard, sits at muleskinner position as his teammates, Sgt. Sven Kramer and Sgt. Robert Harvey, hook up the Percheron draft team to one of the unit’s wagons Dec. 9 at Fort Riley.  New members practice driving to build a solid bond with the horses and confidence as a cohesive team.  As seasoned members of the CGMCG begin to transition out of the unit, new members are stepping up to serve as muleskinners and swampers – teams that man the unit’s wagons.

To symbolize the transfer of command, 1st Sgt. James Trunck, the CGMCG’s senior noncommissioned officer, passed the colors to Capt. Casey Wolfe, who then passed them to Hipskind, symbolizing the end of his time as the unit’s senior leader.

The 1st Infantry Division’s Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard helps the city of Manhattan, Kansas, celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day holiday March 14 by leading the annual parade down the streets of Aggieville.  The parade kicked off at 2 p.m.  Manhattan also celebrated the 37th running of the St. Patrick’s Day Road Races.  The city’s largest running event has drawn record numbers of walkers and runners the past four years, attracting more than 1,600 runners and walkers to Aggieville.
