COMMUNITY CORNER – Garrison to celebrate efforts with Org Day

By Col. John D. Lawrence | GARRISON COMMANDER | September 28, 2017

As we bring this month to a close, there have been so many activities throughout the summer — and a lengthy list of accomplishments, especially through August and September. Let me take this opportunity to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you to the garrison staff for your efforts and support to our Soldiers and families of Fort Riley. I truly appreciate your tireless work, the endless extra hours and the heart and soul everyone has put into things like Victory Week, Victory Fest, Fall Apple Day festival and the opening of the Outdoor Adventure Park.

Each project was big enough on its own, but add them together and then throw in everything else that it takes to keep daily operations of this installation on track, and you have a pace of operations that is almost immeasurable. So, to each of you who worked at, volunteered and turned out to support these events, while keeping everything else running smoothly, again, thank you.

To celebrate the hard work of our employees and the success of the past year, the garrison will hold an internal Organizational Day Oct. 5 at the Outdoor Adventure Park for an afternoon of food and fun starting at 11 a.m. Essential services for the post will still be operating this day. Activities for the garrison team include high ropes and family ropes courses, team challenges, zip lines, yard games and “Minute to Win It” games. The driving range and archery will be available, but you must bring your own equipment. Riley’s Conference Center will cater a barbecue lunch of chicken, pulled pork and side dishes. Food tickets are $10 and available from your directorate representative or at Riley’s Conference Center. Family members are encouraged to attend. A garrison awards ceremony will round out the event at 1 p.m. This is great venue for an Organizational Day and I hope other units take advantage of it as well for their own Organizational Days.

With a day of relaxation behind us, we’ll then get back to the business of readiness. Over the past year we have offered quality training to our Soldiers and support for families and veterans. I know we face challenges with funding and personnel, but I know I can count on each of you to continue the tradition of excellence through fiscal year 2018.
