New resource center hosting open house

By Season Osterfeld | 1ST INF. DIV. POST | September 29, 2017

The 1st Infantry Division Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Program is holding an open house at their new resource center location Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third floor at 7424 Apennines Drive.

“The division SHARP program has not had a permanent stable home since it stood up in 2012,” said Barbara Garber, 1st Inf. Div. SHARP program manager. “The new resource center is permanent. The open house is a way to allow the installation to know SHARP is present on this post in a way that helps victims feel comfortable after one of the most traumatic events in anyone’s life — a sexual assault.”

Soldiers and leadership from garrison organizations are encouraged to attend the open house. However, anyone interested in seeing the facility and learning about the resources available there are welcome to attend, Garber said.

The new resource center increases the space for training rooms, computer labs, safe areas and more.

“The resource center has training rooms, has a computer lab where commanders can come for their on line training and, most importantly, we have a place that can feel welcome to victims,” Garber said.

The SHARP Resource Center is open to service members, their dependents age 18 years and older, Medical Activity assets and Department of the Army civilians.

“Anyone who wants help recovering from sexual violence, come to the 1 ID SHARP Resource center and we will get you to the right people to assist,” Garber said.
