Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Dunham, Killed May 24, 2007, Transition Team member

Two Soldiers were killed May 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, when the vehicle they were traveling in struck an improvised explosive device.

Killed were:

Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Dunham, 36.

Staff Sgt. Russell K. Shoemaker, 31.

Dunham was an active duty telecommunications operations chief assigned to a 1st Brigade transition team attached to the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. His home of record is Baltimore. He entered the Army in November 1988.

Shoemaker was a mobilized Army Reserve infantryman assigned to the same transition team. He entered active duty service in February 1995.

To date, 102 Fort Riley Soldiers have died while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
