Sgt. Chad M. Mercer, 25, of Waycross, Ga., was killed June 30 near Baghdad, Iraq, when the M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle he was riding in rolled over.

Mercer, the vehicle commander, was assigned to the National Guard's Company B, 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry, 48th Brigade, 24th Infantry Division.

He enlisted in the Army in March 1998.

Mercer deployed with his unit in May 2005 for his first rotation to Iraq.

The incident is under investigation.

The 48th Brigade is one of three Army National Guard enhanced Separate Brigades that fall under the command of the 24th Infantry Division (Mech). The 2nd Bn., 121st Inf. is from Fitzgerald, Ga.
