Sgt. 1st Class Johnny C. Walls, 41, died of wounds suffered from enemy small

arms fire Nov. 2 in Uruzgan, Afghanistan.

Walls was a cannon crewmember serving on a transition team assigned to 1st

Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. His home of record is Bremerton, Wash.

He entered the Army in September 1985 and deployed on the transition team in April 2007. This was his second deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

To date, 138 Fort Riley Soldiers and Airmen have been killed while serving

in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Transition team training is a 60-day training cycle to prepare small teams

of American Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors to advise, teach, mentor and coach

their Iraqi or Afghan counterparts.
