Spc. Peter J. Navarro, 20, of Wildwood, Mo., was killed Dec. 13 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV while his unit was conducting combat operations in Taji, Iraq.

Navarro was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor as an M-1 armor crewman.

He entered in the Army in July 2003 and arrived at Fort Riley in December 2003.

This was Navarro's first deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Approximately 3,700 Fort Riley Soldiers are currently deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. This incident brings the number of Fort Riley active duty Soldiers who have died while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to 62.
