Sgt. Donald D. Furman, 30, of Burton, S.C., was killed Oct. 12 near Balad, Iraq, when the HMMWV he was riding in rolled over.

Furman was assigned to the 24th Transportation Company, 541st Maintenance Battalion. His military occupational specialty was a heavy vehicle driver.

He enlisted into the Army in March 1995. He came to Fort Riley in August 1995 and then again in December 2001.

This was Furman's second deployment to Iraq with the 24th Trans. Co.

The incident is under investigation.

Approximately 3,700 Fort Riley Soldiers are currently deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. This incident brings the number of Fort Riley active duty Soldiers who have died while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to 58.
