A combat engineer assigned to the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division was killed in action Jan. 20 near Baji, Iraq, of an improvised explosive device attack.

Sgt. Jonathan P. Kingman, 21, was en route to Baji, Iraq when an IED detonated near his vehicle.

Kingman was originally from Nankin, Ohio. He entered the Army in August 2003 and arrived at Fort Riley in January 2004.

This incident brings the number of Fort Riley Soldiers who have died while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to 83.
