Sgt. Wayne R. Cornell, Killed Mar. 20, 2007

Sgt. Wayne R. Cornell, 26, and Pfc. Stephen K. Richardson, 22, died when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device March 20 in Baghdad, Iraq.

Cornell and Richardson were both indirect fire infantrymen assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

Cornell's home of record is Holstein, Neb. He entered the Army in 1999 and began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in 2006. This was Cornell's second deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Richardson's home of record is Bridgeport, Conn. He entered the Army in 2005 and began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in 2006. This was Richardson's first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Eighty-seven Soldiers from Fort Riley have died while serving in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
