Spc. Matthew A. Koch, 23, of West Henrietta, N.Y., was killed in an improvised explosive attack March 9 in Taji, Iraq.

Koch was an engineer with Company C, 70th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division.

He was enlisted into the Army in January 2002.

Koch had been stationed at Fort Riley since June 2002 and deployed for a second rotation to support Operation Iraqi Freedom in January 2005.

The incident is under investigation.

Approximately, 4,300 Fort Riley Soldiers are currently deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. This incident brings the number of Fort Riley Soldiers who have died while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to 47.
