A Fort Riley Soldier was killed April 14, in Al Anbar Province in Iraq from injuries sustained during combat operations.

The Soldier was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division.

Killed was Sgt. Christopher Ramirez, 34, of McAllen, Texas, was an infantryman. He joined the Army in August 1991 and had been stationed at Fort Riley since December 2001. This was his second assignment at Fort Riley.

The Soldier deployed to Iraq in September 2003.

Approximately 3,700 Fort Riley Soldiers are currently deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. This incident brings the number of Fort Riley Soldiers who have died while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to 36.

The incident is under investigation.
