A combat engineer assigned to the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division was killed in action Jan. 13 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, of an improvised explosive device attack.

Sgt. Gregroy A. Wright, 28, was conducting a combat mission when the IED detonated.

Wright was originally from Jamaica and later lived in Boston, Mass. He entered the Army July 1999 and served in the Massachusetts National Guard before he transitioned into the active Army May 2004.

This incident brings the number of Fort Riley Soldiers who have died while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to 82.
