Spc. Brian Ritzberg, 24, died April 2, 2007while conducting security for a Police Transition Team near Kirkuk, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his location.

He was a Military Policeman assigned to the 977th Military Police Company, 97th Military Police Battalion, 1st Infantry Division.

Ritzberg's home of record is Long Island City, N.Y.

He entered the Army in February 2005 and began serving at Fort Riley in June 2005.

This was Ritzberg's first deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Ritzberg is the 89th Fort Riley soldier killed supporting the Global War on Terrorism.
