Spc. David J. Lane, Killed Sept. 4, 2007

Three Fort Riley Soldiers died Sept. 4 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.

Killed were:

Sgt. Joel L. Murray, 26.

Spc. David J. Lane, 20.

Pvt. Randol S. Shelton, 22.

Murray was an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. His home of record is Kansas City, Kan. He entered the Army in January 2003, and he began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in April 2006. This was his second deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Lane was an infantryman also assigned to 2nd Bn., 16th Inf. Regt., 4th Inf. Bde. Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div. His home of record is Emporia, Kan. He entered the Army in February 2006, and he began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in July 2006. This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Shelton was an infantryman also assigned to 2nd Bn., 16th Inf. Regt., 4th Inf. Bde. Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div. His home of record is Schiller Park, Ill. He entered the Army in October 2005, and he began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in March 2006. This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

To date, 130 Fort Riley Soldiers have died while serving in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.
