Spc. Astor A. Sunsin-Pineda, Killed May 2, 2007

Spc. Astor A. Sunsin-Pineda, 20, died May 2 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Baghdad, Iraq.

In the same attack, Lt. Ryan P. Jones, 23, also died.

Sunsin-Pineda was a combat engineer assigned to Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. Sunsin-Pineda's home of record is Long Beach, Calif. He entered the Army in August 2005 and began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in January 2006. This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Jones was a combat engineer assigned to Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. Jones' home of record is Westminster, Mass. He entered the Army in May 2005 and began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in December 2005. This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

To date, 97 Soldiers from Fort Riley have died while serving in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
