Pfc. Ramon Mora Jr., died May 22, 2011, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division

FORT RILEY, Kan. –A Soldier from the 1st Infantry Division assigned to the division's 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team died May 22 from wounds suffered while supporting Operation New Dawn in Iraq.

Pfc. Ramon Mora Jr., was killed in action after enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device near Baghdad. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Mora, 19, of Ontario, Calif., was an infantryman who joined the army in Jan. 2010. This was his first deployment to Iraq. Mora was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.

The 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, deployed to Iraq in November, 2010, and serves as an advise and assist brigade under the United States Division – Center in central Iraq.

To date, 178 Fort Riley Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors have died while serving in support of the Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
