Sgt. Lashawn D. Evans, died Feb. 15, 2011, 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Aviation Regt

FORT RILEY, Kan. – A Soldier assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division died Feb. 15 while supporting Operation New Dawn in Iraq.

Sgt. Lashawn D. Evans, 24, of Columbia, S.C., died in Baghdad province, Iraq, in a non-combat related incident. The cause of death is under investigation.

Evans was assigned to the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. He was a petroleum supply specialist, and arrived at Fort Riley in July 2008. Evans unit deployed to Iraq in March 2010. This was his second deployment to Iraq.

To date, 175 Fort Riley Soldiers have died while serving in support of the Global War on Terror.
