Sgt. 1st Class Kevin A. Dupont, Died June 17, 2009, 1st, Brigade, 1st Infantry Division

A 1st Infantry Division Soldier wounded in an attack in Kandau, Afghanistan, died June 17 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Sgt. 1st Class Kevin A. Dupont, 52, was wounded March 8 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

Dupont, of Templeton, Mass., was a member the 79th Troop Command of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. He was assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Inf. Div., in August 2008 as a member of a transition team.

Transition team training is a 60-day training cycle at Fort Riley to prepare small teams of American Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors to advise, teach, mentor and coach their Iraqi or Afghan counterparts.

To date, 166 Fort Riley Servicemembers have died while serving in support of Operations Iraqi or Enduring Freedom.
