Black Lion Soldier Dies in Afghanistan

FORT RILEY, Kan. – Pfc. Cody O. Moosman, 24, of Preston, Idaho, died in Gayan Alwara Mandi, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

Moosman a Preston, Idaho native, joined the Army in October 2010. He was assigned to Fort Riley in April 2011. He was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

This was his first deployment. Pfc. Moosman's awards include the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

To date, 201 Fort Riley Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors have died while serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
