Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth W. Westbrook, 41, died Oct. 7, 2009, Transition Team member

FORT RILEY, Kan. – A Soldier assigned as a Military Transition Team member to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, has died from wounds sustained in Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth W. Westbrook, 41, died Oct. 7 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. His home of record is Shiprock, N.M.

Westbrook was wounded Sept. 8 when insurgents attacked his unit in the Ganjigal Valley, Afghanistan, using small arms and indirect fire.

To date, 167 Fort Riley Servicemembers have died while serving in support of Operations Iraqi or Enduring Freedom.
