‘Rangers’ case colors for deployment

By Sgt. Luther Washington | 4TH IBCT PUBLIC AFFAIRS | June 23, 2014

A crowd of family members, friends, guests and supporters from the Fort Riley community gathered with leaders and Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division during a June 2 casing ceremony at Fort Riley.

The “Ranger” battalion cased its colors in preparation for a deployment to the Horn of Africa as part of the 4th IBCT’s mission to lead the Regionally Aligned Forces, or RAF, mission in Africa. The brigade took over the mission recently from the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div. The casing of the colors is a time-honored Army tradition that symbolizes the movement of the division to a new theater of operation.
