Golf course receives upgrades in its off season

The Custer Hill Golf Course will continue to strive to provide the best golfing experience possible for its customers, even as the temperatures drop, according to its manager.

Several maintenance and upgrade projects are underway at the grounds to improve usability and convenience.

The annual service program that winterizes the golf course has been completed, said Dave Crawley, manager, Custer Hill Golf Course, adding that annual maintenance can often be difficult to accomplish when golfers are on the course.

Aside from regular maintenance, the golf course is scheduled to receive a new maintenance building, and new flooring and fresh paint are being added to the locker rooms.

“It’s important to keep updating the golf course to keep up the structure issues and keep it customer-friendly to keep our customers happy,” Crawley said.

Because of heavy rain and flooding, several bridges on the golf course washed out, along with patches of grass, he said. The bridges and the grounds are being repaired during the golf course’s off season, he added.

In addition to maintenance and renovation projects, new membership packages will soon be available for the 2014 year, Crawley said.

Basic membership fees are $250 for 2014 and include unlimited golf, Sunflower Trail membership, a membership bag tag, local handicap service and the option of monthly payments.

The basic membership package is available now to active- duty, Reserve and National Guard Soldiers.

The BRO membership packages are $360, $480 and $560, depending on rank. It will be available for purchase beginning March 1.

The BRO package includes everything the basic package does, but also has additional benefits, including 10 free range tokens, a locker or member’s shirt, $1 off cart fees, 10-percent off pro shop purchases of more than $50, excluding clearance items, seven-day advance tee times, $5 discount on Custer Hill Golf Course tournaments and one 30-minute golf lesson.

Past memberships have been limited in the perks they offered, Crawley said, adding the upgraded packages are available and offer more to customers.

Also available are options for family memberships.

Custer Hill Golf Course has upgraded its social media status and is now on twitter to help keep customers up-to-date on possible weather delays and last-minute promotions.
