By | IACH | August 07, 2014

Military beneficiaries interested in nutrition and weight management have several options available to them free of charge through Irwin Army Community Hospital’s Nutrition Care Division.

IACH will offer a bariatric seminar for military family members and retirees interested in learning more about bariatric surgery to assist with weight loss from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept.12.

Keynote speaker will be Dr. David Cancelada, IACH surgeon, who will present information about different bariatric options and the required criteria for potential surgery candidates.

Participants will be able to meet and ask Cancelada questions during the seminar, and registered dietitians will present information about dietary recommendations for bariatric surgery.

Seminar participants also will learn about various services available at the Nutrition Care Division, including a weight control program called FamilyMOVE!

FamilyMOVE! is a multi-disciplinary, 10-week weight management program for military beneficiaries wanting to reduce weight, regardless of if they plan to have bariatric surgery.

Weight management, other nutrition classes and individualized nutrition sessions with a dietitian also are available, including heart healthy nutrition, prenatal nutrition, diabetes, gestational diabetes, pre-diabetes.

Military family members and retirees interested in nutrition services, including the bariatric seminar and/or FamilyMOVE! program, should call the Nutrition Care Division at 785-239-7644.
