National Night Out 2009
Friday August 14th Fort Riley celebrated the 26th annual National Night Out with thousands of it's residents and guests. This event hosted by the Directorate of Emergency Services and USD 475 was designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Events included demonstrations by the military working dogs and the Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard, mule rides, static displays by the Fort Riley Police Department, Fire Department and the Junction City Police Department DARE program. Other fun events included safety awareness SIDNE the go cart, and the seat belt convincer. Children and adults alike enjoyed the jumping inflatable, obstacle course, the giant inflatable slide, face painting, identity kits, and free food!
Partner activities participated in NNO by setting up awareness tables and answering questions for residents and guests. These partner groups included Picerne Housing, Soldier Family Assistance Center, and the Fort Riley Veterinary Services.
Appreciation goes out to DFMWR, USD 475, the Directorate of Information Management, and the many volunteers who made this year's National Night Out a success!
