Outdoor Recreation to move to new location

Story by: Calun Reece
1ST INF. DIV. POST

Fort Riley's Outdoor Recreation Center is scheduled to open March 11 in its new location, Building 1806 at Camp Funston.

"We really don't have any room for any sort of expansion here at all," said Angelia Lentz, director, Outdoor Recreation Center, of the center's current location in Forsyth. "In our new location, we actually have the opportunity for some additional expansion."

Outdoor Recreation Center provides opportunities for military Families to experience the outdoors. The center offers outdoor equipment rentals and outdoor group trips like skiing and canoeing. The center also operates the Fort Riley Skeet and Trap Range and the Fort Riley Marina at Milford Lake.

"The nicer the weather is, the more people want to get outside. So we really want to make sure we get our move done by March," Lentz said.

Folks can start getting out enjoying the nice Kansas weather, she added.

The moving process has already begun, she said. The center's paintball and rock wall, for example, are being set up at the new location.

The new area also will offer an overflow RV parking lot.

"We're going to have the opportunity to open an overflow RV lot because in the past our RV lot has been completely full and people have had to wait on a waiting list," Lentz said. "We will maintain our current RV lot, but we are also going to offer an overflow lot."

It is important that customers realize the current RV lot will remain open, Lentz added.

The center also will be closed briefly March 4 through March 8.

"We are going to have a partial closure that allows for the move, since we have to get pretty much everything moved," Lentz said.

Phone lines will also be down during this time, Lentz said.

"We're excited for the new location, the better opportunity for expansion and offering new things," Lentz said. "We just want folks to know we're moving."

The center will begin its summer hours March 11 and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday to Saturday.
