FORT RILEY, Kan. – Lieutenant Col. Keith Casey, commander, 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, passes the battalion’s colors to Col. Michael Pappal, commander, 1st HBCT, during a change of command ceremony at Building 33312, Feb. 16, 2012. Casey’s passing of the colors symbolizes him relinquishing his authority to command the ‘Destroyers’ to their new commander, Lt. Col. Scott Nolan.

Wehr, an infantryman from Perkins, Okla. assigned to the 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, receives the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star form his Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. James Smith during the 1st CAB, 16th Inf. Reg. award ceremony held at Marshall Airfield, Ft. Riley, January 31, 2012. Drew earned his awards following his action after an ambush assaulted his squad 5 June 2011.The 1st CAB, 16th Inf. Reg. is one of three combat battalions that rejoined the 1st HBCT at Fort Riley following a nine-month to Afghanistan as apart of the troop surge in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
