Brigadier General Sean P. Swindell

Brigadier General (BG) Sean P. Swindell was commissioned in the Infantry from the Citadel in 1988. Following the Infantry Officer Basic Course and the Ranger Course, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion 503rd, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Hovey, Korea, where he served as Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer.
Upon departure from Korea, BG Swindell was assigned to 1st Ranger Battalion in Savannah, Georgia, where he served as a Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and S-3 Air. BG Swindell participated in Operation DESERT STORM with the Rangers during this assignment.
Following attendance at the Infantry Officer's Advanced Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, BG Swindell attended the Special Forces Qualification Course. Upon completion of the "Q Course," BG Swindell was assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as Detachment Commander, Headquarters Support Company Commander and Group Assistant S-3.
Upon departure from 7th Special Forces Group, BG Swindell attended the Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). Upon graduation from CGSC, BG Swindell returned to 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as a Battalion S-3 and Group S-3.
In June 2002, BG Swindell was assigned to the Joint Staff where he served as an Operations Officer and Executive Assistant to the J3, Deputy Director Special Operations. Upon completion of this assignment, BG Swindell was assigned to 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and participated in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM III.
In July 2005, BG Swindell assumed command of 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). BG Swindell completed two successive combat tours in Baghdad, Iraq as Commander, Special Operations Task Force - Central during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM IV and V. Upon completion of battalion command, BG Swindell attended the Army War College.
In June 2009, BG Swindell assumed command of 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). During IRAQI FREEDOM VII, BG Swindell forward deployed as the Commander, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Arabian Peninsula. Upon completion of group command, BG Swindell was assigned to the Pentagon where he served as the Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.
In July 2012, BG Swindell was assigned to NATO Training Mission - Afghanistan where he served as the Assistant Commanding General for Special Operations Forces.
His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Citadel, a Master of Military Art and Science from the Army Command and General Staff College, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
BG Swindell's decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the Bronze Star (w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (w/4 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal (w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters).
His badges include the CIB, EIB, Master Parachutist Wings, Pathfinder, the Special Forces Tab and the Ranger Tab.
He is married. BG Swindell and his wife have two children.
