Brigadier General David C. Petersen

DCG(R) Brigadier General David C. Petersen

Brigadier General David C. Petersen assumed duties as the Deputy Commanding General – Rear, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley Kansas in November 2009. In this assignment, he assists the 1st Infantry Division Commander in the command and control of the 1st Infantry Division.

General Petersen was drafted into the United States Army in June of 1972 as an engineer. He served three and a half years on active duty and went directly into the Nebraska Army National Guard in 1976. BG Petersen attended the Nebraska National Guard State Officer Candidate School in 1978, and was subsequently commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1979. Throughout his career, he served as a Company Commander, Training Site Commander, Director of Maintenance and Facilities, Deputy Chief of Staff Plans and Operations, and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Joint Staff – Nebraska.

In September of 2005, BG Petersen deployed to Afghanistan and served as the Senior Liaison Officer for Combined Forces Command Afghanistan to Central Command’s Joint Intelligence Operations Center and the Senior Regional Police Advisor – East. He was also an advisor to an Afghan Police Major General in Gardez, Afghanistan.

Upon his return from Afghanistan, BG Petersen took command of the 67th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade in Lincoln, Nebraska. In his most recent assignment, BG Petersen served as the Assistant Division Commander of the 35th Infantry Division at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
